My mom has had many dogs from given to her from other people. ALL looked up to her as their "master" in the end.
I also have a shihtzu, Lulu. She obeys me and my mom the same. She is actually my mom's dog that somehow becomes mine too. Bear in mind I wasn't around for the 1st year of her life.
I believe dogs can have a few leaders, no matter what experts say. They have big hearts
