Hello all! I have an 11 month old boy, Emilio. I trained him to a litter pan but no litter just a wee wee pad in it. That way he has a designated space for potty. He did really well at first, was trained totally in about 2 weeks. But has had regression a couple times. I put the pan in the crate with him when we are gone. That way he has a place to go and doesn't have to hold it. As for the person asking about the urine sample, I did the same thing when Emilio was regressing a bit, took him to the vet. I tried to take the wee wee pad out of his pan so he would go and I could pour it into something to take, but he didn't go, I think it confused him, so the vet got a urine sample with a catheder. They only need a tiny bit to do the urinalysis. Maybe try to put a wee wee pad in the kennel only at night and see if that helps at all.
