I am going to assume that the male mounted your female from behind (some may call it "doggy style") and that this resulted in a "tie" and the male possibly in the attemp to get away from the tie flipped over on his back?

When breeding your pair you should always hold the female. Your male and/or female can get seriously injured if you do not keep them contained during the whole process.

If you have further questions I'd be happy to help you.
