Check for lime disease.

We had a standard poodle who had a similar problem. He would get almost paralyzed in his back legs and the vet would give him steroids. It would fix it for awhile, then get bad again. So the vet increased his dosage. He'd get better, then bad again. Eventually we had to have him euthanasized because it was never ending. It was absolutely horrible.

Well, we found out later from another vet that this is signs of lime disease (which is curable!!!) Since lime disease isn't common in our area, our vet didn't look into it. I'm still very bitter about this. I don't care where you are located as a vet, you should know the symptoms of diseases or look it up! We realized later that the vet never took his temperature either. Have you checked his temp? Another symptom of lime disease is high temp.
