Hey Tammy,
I raised a cleft palet Chi and she was 2 in July. her cleft was in the soft pallet and I went out and bought a premi nipple (for a human) and I bottle fed her that way. I also alternated with a syringe with the needle taken off.
I used a formula that I made myself that has more calories per CC than normal store bought.
I did not tube feed and I do not have experience in it as it scares the crap out of me, so I did what I could with the bottle. It was a LONG road. I have not had her repaired. She now has adjusted and drinks from a bottle and only eats kibble.
Here is the recipe I raised her on for 4 months: ( I used evaporated Milk)
Bottle Feeding Recipe
11 Calories per CC
1. 10 oz. of canned evaporated milk or
goat’s milk (not pasteurized cow’s
milk - this will cause scowers - dogs
cannot drink normal cow’s milk)
2. 3 oz. sterilized water (baby water or
boiled water) this is not needed if
using goat’s milk
3. 1 raw egg yolk
4. 1 tablespoon regular mayonnaise
(optional)
5. 1 cup of whole yogurt (avoid skim or
fat free)
6. 1/2 Tsp Karo Syrup or Corn Syrup
(NOT HONEY !!!)
Place ingredients in a blender and blend or use
a wire whisk. Be careful to not over blend and
create a milk shake full of bubbles .
I will help anyway I can!!!! |
