Its that time of year again when furnaces are kicking on and woodburners are getting going. Carbon Monoxide is a silent killer. It is odorless and invisible. Don't think that because you have a new furnace or house, or that you have a trusty furnace that has never given you problems, that you are safe from it. Please, please, especially if you have children, go out and get a Carbon Monoxide detector. They are different from smoke detectors, and most plug into the wall. Follow manufacturers instructions and place them where they are supposed to be. Many need to be replaced yearly. I know times are tough for some, but if it means eating mac and cheese for dinner for a week to keep your family safe, its worth it. Carbon Monoxide poisoning can take effect quickly, and is fatal in most cases because it causes you to get tired first, so you don't even realize you are being poisoned.
