Just wanted to send some "fish out of water" love to the OP. When I moved up North for the first time, people laughed at my winter gear -- my heaviest peacoat and scarves etc. I was told where to go and what material to buy BUT it wasn't until the snow hit my friends realized how clueless I was -- my dear dear roomie noticed that I wore my scarf "funny" -- I was wearing it like everyone back home in GA did -- then she bundled me up correctly.... I WAS SOOOO MUCH WARMER. So whatever you get, make sure you know how to use it optimally.
