Yes, but they do swallow pieces of it, they pretty much swallow the whole thing in little pieces, but some chewing sticks their bodies can digest, and it's turned into waste or poop. However some sticks, like rawhides, can't be 100% digested, and this means that the body can't turn it into poop, and the little pieces can cause blockage. Millions, of dogs have eaten rawhides with no problem, and if the majority of dogs had problems, they would be taken off the market, however, it still is a risk, and it's not one some of us are willing to take, since there are safer alternatives.
