No, breed clubs cannot "guarantee" a breeder or their pups. However, joining a breed club is more difficult than registering a dog with AKC. You have to be nominated by a member and then voted in. You have to agree to abide by the club's code of ethics. In general breed club members are those that care about their breed. They show and do health testing and are not in it for profit. A YTCA member can be kicked out of the club for selling a pup at 6 weeks; the AKC could care less. A breeder could be suspended from a breed club for breeding mixes, AKC can do nothing. Breed clubs don't register puppies and they don't get registration fees for every dog produced, so they don't have the conflict of interest that the AKC does. Of course there are some bad eggs in every breed club, but there are far fewer than with the AKC. |
