When an animal or person for that matter goes under anesthesia this can happen. Some just react badly to it. Also if the animal has a condition no ones knows about this could cause death, if not during the procedure then later.
I had a 6 month old cat that died on me a few years back. His lungs had collapsed and he couldn't be saved. They said most likely there was some condition he had and when he went under it brought out the problems.
My baby has been under anesthesia before and he was fine. Your will most likely be fine to. But I know that won't stop you from worrying cause I always do.
