Both of mine do that when they are in "stealth mode": they freeze in position on full alert, and will sometimes lift a paw, as if to be ready for an instantaneous charge.
Unfortunately, they're not much on stealth mode when it comes to squirrels or the neighbor's cat: it's more like a full-tilt-boogey chase, complete with barking like maniacs! I don't know what they'd do if they ever caught one: even the squirrels are bigger than they are! |
