The reason he isn't the monster people make rotties out to be, has a lot to do with the fact that he is a member of the family. When dogs spend all day in the yard or on a chain, they essentially become lawn ornaments. No dog should live like that.
I have a "friend" who sounds similar to the OP's case. She and her boyfriend bought some designer mix from a pet store. Now the poor thing lives outside 24/7 and is lucky to get fed everyday. He has never been to the groomer and I don't think they've ever brushed him either. I have suggested to the friend's mother that she take the dog to the pound, but she won't because it's her grandson's dog. I flat out told her that letting them keep the dog like that is worse for the kid than losing his dog. He is learning that it's okay to keep a dog outside and neglect it. Better he should learn that not taking care of a pet means it will be taken away from you. |
