on female long hair breeds I usually trim very close around their little bottom, then cut the inside of the back legs short at the top. Sometime if the owner mentions having a "tinkle smell problem" I will cut it short all the way down to the hock or "knee" You can't see that part anyway and it also helps prevent matting!
