| Introducing Myself & Max Hello everyone...my name is Miki and I have a totally awesome guy named Max. I brought "Max" home at the end of July on a Sunday from a kennel that's about a hour away from home....of course he's the runt pick of the litter!! He got car sick all the way home then refused to eat and drink...he wasn't adjusting to leaving his family. He tried so hard to eat and drink but kept getting sick shortly afterwards....he wasn't able to hold anything down. I took him to the vet and they gave him shots of vitamins and another medication to help him from getting sick when he ate. I ended up calling work explaining that I needed to stay home and keep an eye out on him...which they much understood! The next day there was still no change and he was so weak. I took him back to the vet and told them I didn't have an appointment but I need help...to please save my little guy. The vet assistant took him from my arms leaving me in tears. I haven't had a dog in years and my son left for college....this is the reason I wanted to get a dog....to keep me company and vise versa. It's so amazing how you can get attached to a dog in less than a week. The next day I went to visit him at the animal hospital after work and when they brought him to me...he couldn't even stand up. I whispered in his ear..."You take care of me and I'll take care of you little guy...so please fight this for me".....with all his strength....he held his head up as if he understood what I was saying. They were having to force feed him and one of the ladies even took him home at nights so she could take care of him. When I went to visit on day two...he was still being forced fed but was able to hold it down. He was crawling and trying to stand on his own...which was a big thrill for me to see!! At this time I still haven't heard him bark or see him play. By the third day.....what an amazing turn around. I already had it in my mind that I was going to take him outside so he could enjoy the beautiful weather by just laying in my lap. When I got there....he was just finishing his feeding...but this time....he was eating off the spoon...and he was walking around!! He walked out the door on his own to a patch of grass next to the parking lot so we could have a visit with each other. He was still a little weak, but he layed in my lap inhaling the outdoors. I thought it was time for me to take over taking care of him we said our goodbyes and the lady that took care of him and I just hugged and cried...with lots of thank you's!! I brought him home and by that night...he was eating out of his bowl but still refusing to drink water. I thought I'd try puppy milk instead just to get him to drink something......you'd think he was in heaven!! I tried the water again....but still wouldn't drink. I laid on the floor and splashed the water with my finger and he came over and took a drink...he's been drinking water ever since!! Now?....let's just say he's well adjusted.....he barks all the time and we play together all the time!! He has brought out every mother instinct I ever carried since he's such a "baby"!! He really is...you have to treat him like a baby....he even has his own baby blanket that he sleeps with every night! I've never had feelings like I do for him for any other animal......he's my "hero" and where you find me....you'll find him as well! I'm in love with a dog named..."Max"!! |
