Also, I don't recommend giving bordetella unless you really believe your dog is at risk for getting it such as being boarded in a kennel often. However, bordetella is a treatable infection and not fatal so I personally still would not vaccinate against it and instead would treat IF my dog got it.
After these one year boosters, I don't believe dogs need anymore vaccines. These vaccines are thought to protect for LIFE, but if you want to be safe, get titers. The law does require rabies every three years after the one-year booster so that's up to you on whether you want to follow it or not. No vet can MAKE you vaccinate your dog. |
Thanks so much Michele. I'm really confused as to what she's had and what she hasn't... her records are kinda confusing. It says she's had:
9/13/07- DHLPPV & K9 Cough
10/5/07- DHLPPV & K9 Cough
10/26/07- DHLPPV & Rabies
Then out beside of the 10/26/07 date it says to return on 10/25/08.
On the other hand, her breeder gave me a puppy pack that had a vaccination chart on it as well. I assume it's the chart they used to keep up with what their vet vaccinated against. She filled in the dates (I think) and their vet checked off whatever they vaccinated then my vet checked off what he vaccinated on 9/2/07. It shows:
Birth: 7/8/07
8/19/07- Distemper, Infectious Canine Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus
9/2/07- Distemper, Infectious Canine Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, Bordetella (kennel cough)
I feel like what I'm typing is jibberish but I'm trying to explain myself. Vets around here make me nervous so I thought I'd get some insight on here beforehand.
I'll try to clarify anything if I can.
