You should definitely brush him out every single day. Yorkies coats tend to mat easily since they have hair rather than fur. This is just a factor of being blessed with a Yorkie!!! There are lots of great conditioners and spray-on detanglers as well. A pin brush is defintiely recommended. There really is a huge difference in the quality of your brush and the ease of which it works. Chris Christensen brushes are very expensive, but worth the cost. Also, never brush a dry coat - always use some type of spray first. A good metal comb is essential for the face, particularly around the eyes/nose & muzzle.
Also, if clothing fits well, it won't cause any more matting that just a natural day will.
