Dog walker is something you can look into or doggy day care as well if not every day once or twice a week.
The other option is get a room mate and have them help.
I have a jumper as well and we use a very big kennel... I chose to give up space I needed to give it space.
The last option which is always painful to look at is life changes and sometimes we have to let go of the things we love for them to have a good life as much as we like to keep them. I am not saying this is needed here but with all that is changing in life for many in the way of economic and working hours some of us will have to make tough choice... been done here... I moved home.

If I tether him to me...I seriously doubt he'll have enough time to strangle. I'm not talking about tethering him to a door knob or anything.
I've given up many many things for him. He eats the best food, drinks only filtered water, always has clean bedding (when I get home to change it), a zillion toys and treats... this dog is certainly not doing without. Not forgetting to mention all of MY things he has ruined...mainly computer cables, a lamp cord, surround sound cables, antique wood furniture from my grandma....i can go on and on. I'm almost 30 years old and moving back home with parents just because my dog is difficult is totally not in the cards for me. They would laugh at me and tell me to get over it and go home. Chewie's crate is pretty big for his size. I think it's the 42' crate...there's room for 3 of him in there...so he isn't suffocating. He's definitely not suffering. He goes in by himself willingly and hangs out in there...chews on his toys and takes naps. As long as he can see me, he's fine being in there.
