From the way it sounds on the show I watch these people don't have company and the kids don't have friends over. The laundry piles up because they don't wash they just buy more clothes, it's easier. But they don't throw the dirty stuff away it just stays on the floor (after all the clothes are still good they're just dirty). Most neighbors don't know from the outside how it looks inside and those that do, don't go in. They will only go to the door or meet them outside on the street.
