simonandhallie's mom lived in Alaska a lot longer than me, so follow that advice first!
Eddie loves the snow, to the point that we try to limit his time outside to a pee and a poop. He'd stay out there all day if I let him, but I watch to make sure he's not shivering.
I usually make sure I stomp down the snow in front of the house; otherwise, he'll dive in up to his neck and come out with it clinging to his fur. When that happens, you have to take out the blowdryer to get all the frozen clumps out or he'll be leaving puddles all over the house.
Otherwise, I agree with all the other advice. Get a warm fleece coat and booties if your pup will stand them and you have the patience to try to put them on. Keep a towel by the door to dry him off, and you'll be fine.
I lived in Utah for a winter and loved it. If you're not up in the mountains, the snow and temperatures aren't that severe.
