Don't give up on him (with the separation anxiety) just yet!!!
He's still a puppy since he's not even 1 yet. I had a lot of separation anxiety problems with mine when she was very young (nothing like the trash thing though!). I'll PM you about some separation anxiety "remedies" you can try and hopefully they will work!!
