Ike's aftermath I stayed awake most of the night as Ike rolled through The Woodlands, and heard lots of heavy knocks on my roof. Not wanting to get too close to the windows, I waited until daylight to survey the damage. The Woodlands only received 90-100 mph winds, but it was enough to put trees on and/or through my neighbors' roofs, and flood my yard to less than 3 inches below my floor level. Fortunately, the winds and the flooding subsided, but our neighborhood was inaccessible for a few days from felled trees, and as I finally was able to venture out into the area, I was shocked by the extent of the damage. It's true that if you don't actually experience it first-hand, you can have no idea what it's really like. |
