Wow, I'm just finding this thread by way of doing a search looking for something else. I'm on my way out of the door in 2 1/2 months having been in the business 35 years. I have a masters degree plus 45 above, career ladder 3 certification, which puts me at the top of the pay scale here, and I live from paycheck to paycheck, and like most Americans, I am one paycheck away from disaster and ruin.
Teaching is def not a profession you get into to get ahead. The highest teacher salaries in the US are in Alaska, and Vegas pays pretty well. Most folks here retire from this system, go to another and work 5 years to get vested, and then draw double retirement. That is the only game you can play financially which will get you somewhat ahead of the game.
You will never be rich financially in this game, but you will be rich in other ways.....good luck as you enter the door, I am out the other end.
