It is much better for Yorkies and other toy breed dogs to use stairs instead of jumping on and off furniture. Just as many cases of luxating patella are caused by traumatic injury as are inherited. ACL tears from jumping on furniture are also common in Yorkies.
You can purchase a set of pet steps for under $50. Luxating patellas cost thousands of dollars to fix.
