I used to own a restaurant/bar and I would bartend wait tables and cook in the kitchen amongst other things. What is the difference with the service you get from an employee or owner? Hopefully you get at minimum the same service, if not better!

I put myself thru college by bartending and waitressing and then I was in commission sales for most of my working years. So working and earning my money was always first and foremost.

The meaning of TIPS is "to insure prompt service". Did you get that service from the individual? If so, then what is the issue with giving this person a tip? It used to really bother when people would say that they didn't need to tip because I was the owner.
