Even though Gus is 2, I still do this and yes, he expects it!
He was potty trained when I got him, but he started going in the house again a little bit this summer. The word from the trainer was that sometimes dogs try to challenge your alpha status by doing this between 2-3 years old; they're basically teenagers challenging authority at that stage. So now I'm reinforcing the good behavior with "poop outside treats," and Gus actually runs to the treat cabinet as soon as we come inside, and he stands there looking at me until he gets it! |
