I usually only use the bathroom in our bedroom ... and it has no door (so my husband can get in/out easier). They follow me until they're assured of where I'm going. Then the run out and up "their" stairs to the bed and wait for me there. They're not stupid: the bed is MUCH more comfortable than the tile floor

When I'm ready to leave, they follow me back to the livingroom or wherever I'm going.
I thought for a while that I should have named my little boy Shadow, for that's where he is: stuck to my heels.
