Theresa, I have talk with the breeder as you suggest, and it was her (who has much more experience than I) that told me to sell Harmony,due to her size unless I just wanted her for showing. But since she is a litter of seven I have to wonder if she may gain more in time.... I have her brother Homer who went through his little growth spurt between 4 to 6 months and the last month he has leveled out. He is 5 pounds (put I think 1/2 pound is his coat...lol) Harmony has a brother that weighs in at almost nine pounds his name is Hermes. He was purchased for breeding and due to his size he is up for sale.
I guess if there was a conformity to the size of the pups that are being thrown with the Biewers I would not be so apprehensive to give it a try and just follow her with ultra-sounds and x-rays and just have a c-section. But there again I am putting her at a bigger risk of going under anthesia. I don't like that idea.
I have put a lot of thought into this, it is on my mind all the time. Yes, I think if there was a stud out there (as I don't have my own for Harmony since she is related to Homer) that was proven and have several litters to judge he throws smalls I might reconsider. But since they are so new to the US this hasn't been established. I think there has only been a handful of litters here in the states to date. With Maevie going to hopefully throw her litter in four weeks I would love to hold back a male from her, if she has what I am looking for. The sire Mokway to this litter is small and so was his parents. Maevie's father was small but her mother is as big as her in the 7 to 8 pound range. But this would be a start to some generations of small. This takes years of conformity and with genetics you still always have the chance to pull out a heredity gene. Sorry about rambling...
So please feel free to keep the suggestions coming. Like I said I value everyone's opinion and I know I will come to a decision. I could proably wait two more months, I don't think this will hurt her to adjusting to a new family if it comes to this. And if I do hold on to her for those two month I could show her in the November show....hehehe And finish her puppy title for her. |
