My Sophia had a grade 3 lp. Our ortho vet had watched it progress from being a grade 1 as a pup to a grade 3 at 2 yrs. He said we would only do surgery when she showed that she was bothered by it. When she started sitting down and refusing to go any further during the middle of her walks, we knew it was time. Wait until your baby tells you it really bothers her and then do it since it is such as long recovery. If you don't do it, it will only get worse over time. You don't want her having a grade 5 when she's 9 yrs old and then it's more risky for anesthesia!
