Default Training in Cars & going out!

I have a problem when I take Alfie out and when he is in the car.

Firstly, when he knows he is going out, he goes mad, like an excited little child. He runs around and barks and squeaks and tries to bit his lead. I don't know if this is normal or he is just so excited going for a walk.

Secondly, when he gets into the car he is constantly crying and whining in the car. He quietens down a bit when we open the car window for him to stick his head out but when he takes his head back in he starts the crying again. I don't know if he is crying because he thought he was going walking but instead he is going in the car. I would love to sort the problem out because I prefer to take him everywhere I go but sometimes I have to leave him because he is so bad this way and it could make me have an accident. I do have a car harness for him which I use for longer journeys but it makes no difference. I have considered buying him a travel crate but I don't know if this will be any difference either. I have tried to walk him before journeys but that hasn't done any good and most of the time I can't walk him before the journey.

Any ideas?
