oh man, these stories are tragic. One that sticks out to me was someone was walking and holding thier dog and a man tried to take their dog right out of their arms... who does that?? I know its not a 'freak accident' but its not an everyday occurance and is something to be aware of.
I had a yorkie that jumped off our deck to the paved driveway to get to my ex-fiance's brother. I was freaking, he was freaking, brother was freaking... this baby was 3 months old and 2.5lbs. He was FINE. Amazingly fine! But tragically at almost 5 months old, he got sick, I rushed him to the vet where he passed away, they did a necropsy and found he had ingested rat poison. NO CLUE where he got into it... but that was a HORRIBLE freak accident. I accused EVERYONE for weeks of having rat poison in their house and not telling me!
My boys now are just INSANE! Luckily they are on the 'bigger' side (6lbs and 9lbs) so jumping off the bed/couch/patio table is an everyday thing for them. I spent months trying to stop them but they won't be stopped. They have been stepped on, kicked, they choked on treats, they fell in the pool, dropped by kids holding them, ran out of the house, ate duck poop .... Luckily I am ALWAYS watching and right there to catch things and fix it right away. They have never been hurt! Amazing! I sound like a bad parent, but its so hard to let them play and protect them at the same time. They do things so quickly you just can't anticipate it all. I just always try to watch them, choking - learned how to do the heimlic, fall in pool - got him out immediately and put lifejacket on him, stepped on them - learned how to do the yorkie shuffle, kick them - well they are always underfoot.. at least its been gentle kicks from the shuffle!
