I lived in Orlando when I was younger, so I know some of what you are dealing with, but I know your area is a much tighter space to get around!
We purposely planned our Cape Cod trip right before Memorial Day, about a week or so to avoid the crowds and the spike in room rates! It was awesome! We didn't make any reservations and just stopped and picked B&Bs and Inns and we didn't have any problems finding rooms!
We ate at a cute diner in Falmouth, Betsy's diner, is it still there?
