Are there any classes you can take him to on a weekly basis? Here, I go to a class for one hour every week. They give us homework to work on during the week. And I never have to leave him with anybody.
Barring that, I'd get a book on dog training that starts with basic commands like sit, stay and come. Those are three of the most important things you can teach him. At the same time, get him used to walking on a loose leash. You don't want him pulling you. A good way to do that is to stop and change direction when he tries pulling one way.
Also, socialization is incredibly important at that age and even younger. Try to get him around lots of people, other dogs, adults, children. You can control the interaction any way you like, but just meeting new people in new environments will help a lot. You don't want him to be aggressive to anyone.
Good luck, and welcome to YT!
