We have struggled with this with our non show yorkie in a long coat....and we finally cut her tail hari back shorter and we also shave a wider strip than normal and like mentioned above cut her hair back a little way to help. But this will not work if you are showing....that is why most show people wrap and I am guessing if you start young enough they will get use to those wraps and leave them alone.
