Several years ago, my vet had a man bring in a little dog wanting to have it put to sleep. My vet had him sign the dog over to her and then he left. She immediately began making some phone calls and found a vet who knew the dog and it's owner. The owner was called and she rushed to my vet's office to claim her little dog, who had been taken by her estranged husband. He had broken into her apartment and stolen the dog. I don't know if he was ever arrested or punished, but my vet's quick thinking saved the life of the dog and a lot of grief for it's owner. It's amazing what people will do!
Many years ago, I left a marriage and had to leave my four dogs behind. My husband gave two of my dogs away and said my registered show dog got loose, but I always believed he turned the dog loose. That dog was recovered and I took one more away from him before he could give it away and found it a good home, but two of my registered and much loved dogs were given away. One vanished and no one ever knew what happened to it. One wound up in a fairly good home. I still get very angry just thinking about it. He wanted to hurt me, so used the dogs he knew I loved to get to me. The one that vanished belonged to my six-year-old son. My two boys were very upset about the dogs and worried about them. Many tears were shed and we all grieved over the dogs. Anyone wonder why I left this guy and divorced him? |
