My dog was weird too..... My yorkie Dax is now 20 months old and until 3 months ago he ate this way too. I used to change foods often and have 2 or 3 kinds on hand trying to get him to eat. He would eat one good meal every 2-3 days ( I can't free feed cause I have two dogs). No matter what I tried he never was an eater. About once a week he would go so long without eating that he would throw up yellow fluid. I began to research dog foods extensively and found several websitses looking for "picky dogs" or something like that. Please don't go by me answer by the way... do your own research. I came upon info that reffered to food allergies, ones that made dogs sick at their stomach.... think about it if you ate a food and it made you sick, then you ate it again and it made you sick, then you ate it a couple more times and it made you sick wouldn't you stop eating the food? That really made since to me. Maybe if it was all you were offered ( like the dog) and you were STARVING you would eat it. I for a long time thought my dog did not need much food and was just a very picky eater... I tried many brands of premium dog food wellness, eagle pack, natural balance, evo, the list goes on and on. And after a few weeks on each one my yorkie reverted back to the same pattern (my little maltese bless her will eat anything). I would toss more kibble and canned food in the the trash than Dax ate... literally. After much research and trying pracitcally everything else I decided to try raw feeding. I have never looked back lol. Once again I urge you do not change your dogs food based on my or anyone elses opinion. Do the research. In my case my research told me that this is the most natural way of feeding no preservatives or fillers (no fillers mean less poop and less gas). The raw alternative includes bone (only uncooked bone is healthy for your dog, cooked is brittle and dangerous) which cleans the teeth, and the best proof for me is that both dogs clean their bowls every meal (I still watch them eat because I love to see them go crazy with their food)... they have glossy shiny coats, clean teeth, fresh breath, less eye tearing and other allergy symptoms, they even smell less doggy (for lack of a better word). I currently feed them Natures Variety ( it is made by Prairie) Medallions (little one oz chunks) they get two, two times per day. I at first thought it was expensive but it averages a little over 1.00 a day for an 8-10 lb dog and when I think of how much kibble I threw away I was sold. They even pee less because they get some of their water from the food so they drink less. Please do your research before you consider this but at least see it as another alternative. If you have any questions feel free to pm me and I will be glad to give you any answers I can. There are also many others on this forum who feed the same or similar foods. |
