Firstly tell your pal that she should first get to know all about the breed...so enjoy the puppyhood and the fact she is a new member of the family first...long before she even thinks about breeding.
Then while she is learning....ask advice as she goes...read plenty and only then consider it once she has thought of all the implications.
Some things she should think of :

Does she work ?
Who would be there for the puppies...they are very tying...and even moreso if anything goes wrong and they need 2 hourly feeding for example.
Can she afford the Vets/stud fees ?
Can she keep any pups if no homes, or if something is wrong with them ?

Tell her to get a good book.... "The book of the Bitch" is very good and gives loads of advice and she'd be best to read it before she thinks about going ahead. (I got mine from a book shop and asked them to order it - it has a golden Lab on the front)

Also tell her to read up on the rescue sites in the UK for Yorkies(google)...she will be very surprised just how many are looking to be rehomed....can she be bothered with all that it entails in finding life-long good homes for the pups ?

She doesn't even need to think about it until her female is 18 months/after second season....and if ever bred it needs to be after this age and before 3 for a first litter....oh and it should be over 4lbs in weight with a much smaller male....5-8lbs is ideal weight for the female and a 3-4lbs male stud.
She should join here and ask questions from the breeders on here who I am sure will help her as much as they can....

Hope that helps, Debra x x x x
