The coat texture really plays a huge part in making the coat grow full length. From the coat breaking pattern article of Carolyn Hensley...
Cottony and woolly coats grow fast.
Silky grows slower.
A wiry coat that has not changed to silky texture is impossible to grow... the coat breaks easily.

Proper coat care is secondary as it is more about facilitating the growth of the coat. Proper grooming ensures the coat is free of mats and also protected through oiling, wrapping and/or banding....

Good diet and appropriate supply of nutrients are needed in maintaining coat health from within.
