I went to a pig farm once for a class I was taking. It was a small farm, about 8 acres and they had around 3000 pigs!!!!!!! The stench alone made me want to vomit. They were packed, and I mean PACKED, like sardines into "size" pens.(pigs of certain sizes went into certain pens) I saw no abuse from the work-men(besides being packed in pens), but the men did pull dead pigs out of some of the pens.(probabley from suffocation or trampeling) They also knew that the school class was coming. There were rows of breeding sows with babies. The sows could not move(by metal bars) so that they would not lay on or kill the babies. As soon as the babies were weaned, they were taken to the appropriate "size" pen. The sows were then placed in a nice big pen with a boar to be bred again. I did notice that the men carried big metal sticks(like a big baseball bat) when they were in contact with the pigs. Pigs are very dangerous and smart and can easily kill a human. So I dont blame the workiers for having clubs. This pig farm had everything down to a fine art in order to make the most profit, as most businesses do. You cant blame them for that! But, malicsious abuse to any animal is disgusting and should never be allowed in any business. |
