I think it all depends on what evironment you live in, for me Kramer is mostly at home, but in the summer he also goes in the pool, so i cut it short, now i'm growing it in the winter. He also doesn't knot very much and I find the conditioning spray with brushing keeps his coat shiny and tangle free. Do what you feel is good for you and your yorkie.
