On the top left hand side of the page, you will see the words "User CP", click on this, and in the left hand column you will see the words "edit avatar" click on this, and upload your picture. The avatar picture is different than your profile picture, the profile picture appears on you profile page only, while your avatar picture is displayed next to your posts.
