I have read that cats don't digest very much of what they eat, so their poo is still full of protein and is appealing to dogs. The first thing you can do is put the cat's litter box where the puppy can't get to it. Then you can teach the puppy to "leave it" which is very useful in keeping the puppy from picking up and/or eating anything that he shouldn't have. You can teach "leave it" by putting something the puppy wants down in front of him (a couple of feet away) and telling him to leave it and preventing him from getting to it by holding or standing on his leash. Then tell him "OK" or some release word and let him have it. It will take a while, but he will catch on and this command is very useful. Good luck!
