AVID® chips can be implanted by shelter personnel, individuals, or veterinarians. Breeders often use the AVID® system because the company offers incentives to chip entire litters, but puppy buyers should be aware that the scanners used by many veterinarians come from HomeAgain™ and cannot read the number on AVID chips. Costs vary with these systems depending on the number of dogs owned and whether the dog is enrolled in the national database. please help me make up my mind
All three of my dogs have HomeAgain chips. My vet's office has scanners that read both kinds of chips. HomeAgain has a database and they keep good records and will help you if your dog is lost or stolen. I get alerts every now and again from then when a chipped dog is lost in my area. I would recommend HomeAgain. It's a one-time expense, so even if HomeAgain is more expensive, it shouldn't make much difference.
