there is another thing high school & even junior high school
kids like to do.. it's called "triple c's"
i am 23 years old and graduated from high school only 5 years ago! i don't think it's THAT long ago.. but i will tell you what, it is SO SO different then when i was even in there! (i was definitely very social in high school and would go to parties, etc. on the weekends.. i would drink, along with my friends.. but i never found drugs appealing, at all! trust me.. they were around-i knew what they were about and i was educated on them(i knew people who would do them, etc.) anyway.. i have 2 younger brothers one graduated high school in 2005 and the other is a senior this year.. there are SO many things i have never even heard of that hs kids are doing now-it's really really scary!! that's why i think it is SO important to be open with your kids and let them know they can come to you!
a few years ago there was a girl who died from an OD while taking "triple c's". i didn't know her.. she was much younger than me and went to one of the local high school's in my area.. she was a popular girl, loved by MANY types of "different people" and "different groups" in high school.. she wasn't into ANY hardcore drugs and i bet you she never even really tried any HARD drugs.. she had done "triple c's" before, though. one afternoon her and her mom got in a fight.. and she was upset and decided to get "high" (for fun.. and prob to forget about the fight she had) well she took around 20 something pills and ended up in the hospital, oded, and died! it was NOT a suicide, whatsoever! she took the pills to get high.. and it ended up killing her!
i know there are MANY stories like this.. and i have plenty more, which is sad to say. but kids as young as JUNIOR HIGH!!!
are doing things like this now.. mostly high school kids, but still! i am telling you, it is everywhere and every "type" of kid is exposed to it!! of course you still have to worry about your typical "hard drugs" and i know they are very easy to get.. but i also know not as many kids are as "open" to the idea of the "hard drugs"(sadly, many are i know..) BUT a huge, huge thing right now is RX pills(pain killers, anxiety meds..), OTC meds, etc. and alot of kids will MIX the PILLS or use them with another drug or alcohol and often times form a deadly "toxic cocktail". this type of drug use is more "openly accepted".. people at parties and stuff, won't go "hide" and do their drugs.. everyone takes pills whether it's a pain killer or otc meds that give you a "trip", etc.
