Hmmm, hard to say what's going on here. The signs of infection are redness, pain, heat, and swelling - and it sounds like you at least have some of these (if not all). I would probably apply antibiotic ointment for now and go to the vet in the morning. Foot infections can get really bad, so you may want get this looked at pretty quickly.
