We were hammered by Rita a few years ago, not so much fun! I'll spend tomorrow packing up the kennel and kids and we'll be off on Friday if needed.... Yea! we just unpacked from Gustav!! BTW, I think one poster mentioned folks not taking pets since they have access to evac on public trans... Remember, our 211 system is not for everyone here, you have to "qualify." A lot of folks are on their own without any assistance and have to find a pet friendly hotel or shelter.... that is not an easy task or can be a very very costly one. During Gustav hotels were charging 100.00 per night non refundable deposit for pets and most shelters were not taking pets..... We are fortunate as we have family all over the state and they know to expect 3 kids, and 10 Yorkies (plus 5 puppies born Wednesday) and 1 cat.... |
We have relatives that live in Beaumont. They came to my house with their dogs for Gustav and, like you, just unpacked at home! They are deciding whether to leave or not for Ike.
Nobody knows what evacuation is like until they have been through it. We flew from Disney in to Houston just in time to get caught in the evac from Rita. It took us 2 DAYS to make the 3 hour trip from Houston to Carthage!! I feel so sorry for you guys
Don't wait too long to leave! Betsi
