I am in a yorkie meet up group and got this e-mail:

Hi all,

I've been struggling with what to do for over a year now. Four years ago, I started a new job where I have to travel around the world for two weeks at a time, hence why we never could participate in a meet-up because they were always scheduled when I was in another country. My daughters are teenagers now and have their own lives and don't pay as much attention to little Teenie as they used to and my little Teenie feels all alone. I think I have no other choice but to find a new home for him.

Teenie is in basically good health except two years ago he started having seizures. Small, short ones, lasting under a minute. I had him tested and the vet says that his blood work checked out fine and there’s nothing we can do. He was great the first 5 years but for some reason started having seizures after we moved to California. He is not on medicine, the vet didn’t think that was necessary since he only has about 4 a year. The vet said that we can just make sure he is comfortable and not where he can fall off a sofa or anything when he has one. If he has a seizure, we just make sure he is comfortable and rub his head. It’s usually over in 30 seconds or so and then he’s back to normal. Other than that, he doesn’t have any health problems. His last vet appointment was in June to get his shots. He’s not on heart worm medication but he doesn’t have any either. I have his latest vet report.

I really would like to find a home for him rather than turning him in to a shelter. I’m not asking for any money, only a nice person who can love him and give him the attention that he needs. I have to go to France in a week then to Switzerland in October for two weeks, so I would like to find a home for him soon. Plus, we are moving and I didn't want to stress him out more with two moves in a month. Foster parents would work too, I guess. I kind of feel guilty because I don't know if my traveling stressed him out so much that he started having seizures of if it's just a coincidence. At any rate, I think he deserves better. I've been struggling for almost a year and a half on whether to keep him or turn him over to someone who has more time to share.

Teenie is an adorable older male, almost 7 years old. He is a black, brown and tan with some silver, mini-Yorki weighing only 4.5 pounds and is up-to-date on his shots although not neutured. He is AKC registered with papers. Teenie is happy and a little laid back. He is no escape artist or “jumper”. He prefers to be cuddled, snuggled and loves pampering, although he doesn’t like bows in his hair. He is easy to groom, he just stands there and let you do what you need. The groomer says that he is the easiest dog she’s ever worked with. Also, his hair doesn’t tangle nor grows really fast. I like to keep him short so he goes every (3) months to be groomed. He listens and watches you when you speak to him and, he loves to give kisses, but is not crazy about being alone. I travel out of the country for work and I feel terrible about leaving him. A retired person or someone who works from home would be great. And even if he is left alone for a few hours, he is overwelmed with job when you return. He won’t stop circling you until you give him a hug and say hello.

He’s not a big eater unless it’s your food he’s sharing. Teenie needs a mom or dad who is going to be around a lot. He will go in the backyard alone but is a little timid. I don’t think you’d have to worry about this one escaping. Most of all, Teenie just wants to be with his person, especially females but he loves anyone who will pet him endlessly.

Teenie is house broken but needs to go out often since he can’t hold it for very long, therefore, he is used to sleeping in a kennel at night. However, he would love to snuggle next to you in bed but you’d have to be willing to get up in the middle of the night to take him out. It’s better to kennel him then take him out very early. He lived in an apartment most of his life so he doesn’t know how to use a doggy door and since he is timid about going outdoors alone, that may be something he would need coaching in. He walks great on a leash and is very curious. Although he is timid, he will stand his ground around big dogs, that is until they bark back. Teenie is a very smart guy and can be jealous at times, especially of his female owners. However, he will make someone a very lucky person to have him in their life. He is great around older children but toddlers intimidate him for some reason. I had a larger dog when Teenie was a pup and they got alone well but he’s been alone (only dog in the house) for 4 years so I don’t know how he would take to another dog. Maybe if he had a play mate, he wouldn’t feel so lonely when all the humans are gone but I don’t know. He can be over possessive at times regarding his owners.

I really don't want to give him to a shelter. If anyone's interested or know of someone, please let me know as soon as you can since I leave on Friday, next week for Paris and won't be back until September 26th. I live in Vallejo but can drive anywhere in the east bay. Thanks.

Well I just couldn't let her give him away with out testing it, she was getting lots of replies, of course the word free brings out tons of people. I would rather take him to the vet and the cost of neutering and everything is what I would charge. I replied to her:

If you do not find a suitable home I would be happy to take him until one can be found. I have 5 yorkies and two biewers and a small dog mix. I'm always home and so is my husband. If he has seizures he does need someone who won't freak out and can afford care down the line if needed. Please don't let just anyone have him or send him to a rescue. I can even keep him while you think about it as you may want to test him being gone and see how it works.


Well, I have had little Teenie since Sunday and he is the cutest little thing. I cleaned him up and gave him a haircut and I'm going to let her decide if she really wants to give him up. If she decided to keep him I will train her on how to be a good Yorkie mom as her heart is in the right place.
If she wants ot give him up I'll make sure he is neutered and gets the right forever home. He has a tilt to his head and it could be from a stroke but if she gives him up I will take him to our vet to find out.
