Then she tells me that I need to take him to the vet from now on and have him sedated to be groomed because he is to afraid of the clippers and scissors. I don't know what to do now. He is only 6 1/2 months old and I have had him groomed 3 times already. He is such a sweet puppy but he is so afraid of being groomed. I thought that if I started him out young and let the professionals do it that he would be alright but boy was I so wrong. I am just so sick. Any suggestions on what to do about grooming now? I am just at a complete loss.

Aw, sit down with your little sweetie, take a deep breath, and try to relax. It's only hair and it will grow back. You need to get him used to being groomed, even if you never plan to groom him yourself. Stand him on a card table or something, gently go over him with a brush whether you actually brush him or not, give him treats, make it fun and enjoyable. Handle his feet and tail, look in his ears, touch him all over. It will take some time, but you can do it. Start with two minutes and work up to longer. He will learn to associate grooming with fun and treats. You might also find another groomer. Their approach to grooming can be very different. Some want the dog to be perfect and some are aware that dogs are dogs and they need to find out how to handle each dog. My groomer is very aware of each dog and what it needs to be comfortable. She is gentle and makes notes on the dog's card about everything so she knows every time just what makes that dog tick. I didn't think my Bichon, Lacy, would ever tolerate being groomed, but she did and does and gets along great with it. Good luck.
