I trained both of mine to use door bells. I have door bells on both the door to the attached garage and door to the outside. I put pads in the garage. I just started them out to go outdoors in the daytime/nice weather. When the weather is bad or at night, I would have them use the pads in the garage. Believe it or not, but they learn quickly. At night, she goes to the door leading to the garage and rings the bell. In the daytime, she goes to the outside door and rings that bell. It works well if you start them out that way from the beginning. It wouldn't be any different to use the pads in the house.
