In my experience, keep them separate for at least the first couple of weeks. After that she will let you know if its ok or not for him to be near. Every dog is different, but I have never seen one that would let any dog near their pups the first week or 2. Feel it out, and if she is comfy with it, after a couple of weeks he can have a peek here and there, but never leave him alone with the pups or let him play freely with them until they are much more independant.
