Well done for the rescue. Ideally you should have took photos of the dogs when you got them when they were in a state. That way if the abusing owner tried to claim them back you have evidence of the state they were in.
I have 'liberated' dogs and cats before now and have had them rehomed in a different area in the country, so the abusing owners cannot trace them.
I have even liberated a fox hound from a fox hunt!!
